Hyderabad: 7 years to Dilsukhnagar bomb blasts

Seven years ago on this day, two bomb blasts triggered panic among the people in Dilsukhnagar that claimed the lives of 17 people and injured several. Families of the victims, locals paid tributes to the deceased. They urged the government to help the families of the victims.

Around 130 people suffered injuries in the blasts that occurred on February 21, 2013, at around 6.45 pm. One of the bombs was detonated near a bus stop and the other one went off near A1 Mirchi centre.

The National Investigation Agency took up the investigation on March 13, 2013 and set up a special court at Cherlapally central jail. The NIA has taken the statements of 157 witnesses and submitted a report to the court after verifying 502 documents.

The arguments in the court were completed on November 7, 2016, confirming that the Indian Mujahideen (IM) was behind the blasts and pronounced judgment against five operatives.

The court issued a death sentence to Asadullah Aktar aka Haddi, Zia Ur Rehman aka Waqas, Mohammad Tahseen Aktar aka Hassan, Ahmed Siddibappa Zarra aka Yasin Bhatkal and Ajaz Shaik. However, the prime accused Riyaz Bhatkal was still at large. Currently, all the five accused are in Cherlapally jail.
