Hyderabad: 83-crore 4-lane carriage way Railway Over Bridge fast-tracked
Hyderabad: As per the directions of MAUD Minister K T Ramarao, the GHMC has undertaken various projects under the Strategic Road Development Programme (SRDP) to ease traffic problems across the city.
GHMC Commissioner Lokesh Kumar in a release on Friday said that the government sanctioned Rs 83.06 crore towards construction of 4-lane carriage way Railway Over Bridge (RoB) to enable free flow of traffic between Madhapur-Kukatpally. Out of the total amount, Rs 18.06 crore has been allocated for the railway crossing portion, and Rs 65 crore for the construction of RoB, laying of approach road and land acquisition. The length of approach road including bridge is 675.50 mts and width is 16.61 mts. The service road will have a width of 5.5 mts.
The proposal of RoB has been formulated to provide a new connectivity between Kukatpally and Madhapur so as to reduce the traffic congestion on existing road network, improve the mobility and safety to road users.
The existing road connecting Green Hills road and Ayyappa Society road is discontinued. This caused massive vehicular movement for business and service-oriented trips leading to huge generation of traffic from various parts of the city to these areas. At present, Kukatpally RoB and Bharath Nagar RoB form the major connectivity between the southern and northern parts of the city in this area.
At present, the existing RoB at HiTEC City is serving the connectivity between KPHB and HITEC City areas. In view of the increasing commercialisation and development of IT Sector in the surroundings of HITEC city and Kukatpally, the traffic on this ROB has drastically increased over the years. The other RoB across railway line in the core city is located at Bharat Nagar which is also serving major city traffic. To relieve the existing RoBs to some extent and to cater the increasing traffic demand, the proposal of new RoB is warranted.
