Hyderabad: After death of girl, GHMC commissioner suspends two officials
Hyderabad: The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation Commissioner DS Lokesh on Saturday suspended the corporation officials after the death of a girl after she slipped into a manhole in Kalasiguda, Secunderabad. The two officials were suspended for negligence in discharging their duties.
DS Lokesh Kumar suspended an Assistant Engineer of Begumpet circle, M Tirumalaiah and work inspector, Hari Krishna.
The suspended officials were also asked to give an explanation failing to attend duties within 10 days.
Due to the negligence of Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation, a nine-year-old girl lost her life after she fell into an open manhole located in Secunderabad on Saturday morning.
According to the sources, the girl identified as Mounika, a resident of Kalasiguda in Secunderabad fell into the manhole when she was on the to purchase a milk packet along with her brother. She was washed away with the heavy water flow in the manhole. The family rusjed to the spot after some passers by informed them regarding the incident.
Later, the GHMC Disaster Response Force team and local police rushed to the spot and launched an extensive search operation. After a long search, the team finally traced the body in a nala at Park Lane and retrieved it.
The authorities shifted the body to Gandhi Hospital mortuary for post-mortem. Meanwhile, the locals have expressed their outrage at the GHMC officials' apathy and demanded immediate action against those responsible for the tragedy.
