Hyderabad: Age no bar to jump to the rescue of needy

Update: 2020-05-12 23:16 IST

Hyderabad: Shyamola Khanna, Virta Behal and Pimi Mukherjee, all above 65, are engaged in making cloth masks for the needy and distributing them free of cost. Residents of Sainikpuri and Vayupuri, the trio has been at it since the lockdown was announced.

The idea was mooted by the eldest of the three who is very fond of stitching. She came across a local newspaper which carried a template on how to do it. The three of them soon plunged into the activity right from their home.

Soon contributions of saris, bedsheets, dupattas from friends started to pour in, but they could not find elastic as they ran out of it. Seeing their enthusiasm, the president of the Vayupuri Society chipped in and got them enough elastic to help the three carry on their noble work for a couple of weeks, rolling out face masks at an average of 20 per day.

So far they have handed over 500 masks to the volunteers attached to the Rachakonda Commissioner's office, of which 40 masks are ready for Clean Concepts, a dry cleaning company in the vicinity while another 40 are being readied for the Red Cross volunteers.
