Hyderabad: Authorities close down hazardous road opening in Charminar

Charminar: The opening section on the road close to Charminar on the Laad Bazar lane which posed hazard to the pedestrians and the tourists was closed on Wednesday. The authorities promised to complete the cabling works at Laad Bazar by Thursday.

After The Hans India has taken up the issue of the dug-up road during works on underground electricity cabling and pointed out how it was posing danger to tourists, as no caution or sign board was erected, the authorities swung into action. An open pit which remained for last 20 days was on Wednesday covered by the officials.

According to a report published in The Hans India, "Fresh works near Charminar, a cause of inconvenience" on February 11 that visitors are facing inconvenience while walking on road. It also published pictures of foreign tourists walking from the damaged section of the road, unmindful of the hazard the pit posed to them. Almost half of the road has been dug up around 20 days back for the works and no board was placed to inform people about the inconvenience.

Due to these works, many shops are running without customers, as there is no place to walk or to enter the shop. Every alternate week, the road is being dug up for some or other works. The market is totally disturbed with this kind of activity.

Syed Akbar, an owner of readymade garment shop, said "After the report published in The Hans India, we market members have conveyed the news to the officials concerned and immediately early in the morning on Wednesday, the dug-up pit has been covered by cement blocks," he added.

Speaking to The Hans India, GHMC Assistant Engineer N Teja said that the works of cabling were being taken up by electrical department in collaboration with GHMC. "The open pit has been covered and the works are almost completed. The entire works with restoration CC patch will be completed by Thursday", informed AE.
