Hyderabad: Bahadurpura flyover works at a snail's pace

Update: 2020-03-06 02:15 IST

• The bottlenecks due to construction works causing traffic jams for hours

• Even ambulances are unable to pass through the bumper to bumper traffic jams

• The project which was to be completed in 2019 is likely to be completed by October

• Incomplete land acquisition process is the cause for delay, say the officials

Bahadurpura: With Bahadurpura flyover construction works going at a snail's pace, the entire stretch has turned into a bottleneck. Even an ambulance can't make its way through the road in emergency cases.

This long-awaited bridge being developed under Strategic Road Development Programme (SRDP), the foundation stone was laid by Minister of Municipal Administration and Urban Development K T Rama Rao in 2018. Though the flyover is being constructed with an estimation of Rs 46 crore, however, the overall project cost including laying of approach roads and other utilities stands at a whopping Rs 69 crore.

"As the construction works are going at a slow pace and a big chunk of the middle part of the road is occupied by barricades and construction materials, the traffic movement is completely choked. Moreover, a lorry parked close to the construction site is adding more woes to the commuters," said Mir Mushtaq Ali, a daily commuter.

"After entering the road from Mir Alam Tank, only a part of the road is used as lorries, tourist buses and other heavy vehicles are parked along the entire stretch, while the main junction at Bahadurpura witnesses traffic jam for quite a long time. Bumper to bumper traffic makes it difficult even for ambulances to pass smoothly," rued Mohd Arif, another commuter. The project which was to be completed by September 2019, has been delayed further owing to incomplete land acquisition process, according to the officials. As per the GHMC project, a 780-mt flyover would be built on 13 pillars from Bahadurpura Police Station to Jawaharlal Nehru Zoological Park.

Out of the 13 piers, six pillars have already been grounded while land acquisition is said to be the main hurdle for the remaining seven pillars for which 26 properties need to be removed.

Though the process of land acquisition initially moved smoothly but some property owners were not accepting the compensation cheques while few other issues pertaining to land ownership claims are yet to be resolved," informed the official.

"The flyover works will be completed by October this year provided the land acquisition process would be done in smooth manner," he added.
