Hyderabad: The State BJP sees no scope of its 48 corporator-elects in the GHMC polls would switch their loyalty to the TRS.

According to the party sources, earlier, some BJP corporators have defected to the TRS in the case of Nizamabad civic body elections. But, GHMC elections are different from the Nizamabad civic elections.

The issue has come to the fore following the State government's decision to allow the existing council to enjoy its full term ie., until February 10, 2021. And, it might provide ample opportunity for poaching of the corporators from the opposition parties to increase its tally.

However, the saffron party views that this time, the GHMC elections were held in a different scenario and any attempts by the ruling TRS will have serious consequences to its own political future. In turn, it would further benefit the saffron party. That apart, speaking to The Hans India, a senior party leader said that about 40 candidates who have won the election in the GHMC elections are committed party workers. The new faces are very few. "If anyone dare to switch over to the ruling TRS will have do it at their own peril. They have to face not only the wrath of the people in their municipal divisions, but the party will also not take it lightly." The winning of seats by the BJP candidates in the GHMC elections was the hard work of lakhs of party workers and leaders that went into it. Besides, none other than national leaders have also put their weight for the party's victory.

"We will not keep quiet if any corporator-elect lured by the ruling TRS dare to cross over. It was not an election just fought over the development agenda. The party also fought the elections on the issue of self-respect and BJP's ideology.

Both the issues will act as a potential deterrence against anyone thinking of crossing over to the ruling party. "Yet, if anyone dares to do it, then, the political backlash and its consequences that follow against such persons, and those who engineer defections will have to pay heavy price," he added.

Echoing the same State BJP chief Bandi Sanjay Kumar said that none of the corporator-elects of the party in the GHMC elections is going to cross over- as it had happened earlier in the case of other civic bodies. As of now, the party sees that the ruling TRS would certainly take covert help from the AIMIM to run the show in steering the GHMC elections.
