Union Minister of State for Social Justice and Empowerment Ramdas Athawale addressing a press conference in Hyderabad on Saturday

Hyderabad : Union Minister of State for Social Justice and Empowerment Ramdas Athawale on Saturday urged Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao to provide 5 acre land to all the landless families in villages.

Addressing a press conference here, Athawale said that there were many landless families and the government should distribute lands to every poor family belonging to SC, ST, OBC and general category. If there was no government land available, the government should purchase and give it to the landless as this would help the families develop economically, and poverty would come down, he said.

The Union Minister also asked the Chief Minister to implement reservation in promotions. He said that his Ministry was studying the categorisation of OBC and soon a decision would be taken in this regard.

He also wanted reservations for the economically-weak Reddy community. The Minister urged farmers to call off their agitation as the government was ready to take up amendment to the new farm laws.

"Farmers agitation is going on for many days. We have sympathy for them and have been explaining them that these laws were not against them. We are ready to amend the laws," said Athawale.
