Hyderabad: Telangana Congress leaders hit the streets on Tuesday in support of Bharat Bandh called by Kisan Unions in protest against the new farm laws enacted by the BJP-led NDA government. Senior leaders Mallu Bhatti Vikramarkha, Ponnala Laxmaiah, Revanth Reddy, Mallu Ravi, Jagga Reddy, K Laxma Reddy, Sampath Kumar among others staged protests on highways, market yards, bus stations expressing support to the farming community.

CLP leader Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka accused the Centre of implementing anti-farmer policies. He along with senior leader and hundreds of party activists staged a protest at Shamirpet on Hyderabad. Farmers came to the protest site in tractors and raised slogans against the Centre.

Bhatti slammed the BJP for the new farm laws that are against the interests of the agriculture community. He was also critical of CM K Chandrashekar Rao, whom he accused of blackmailing the farmers to sow crops selected by him only. He said KCR was rallying behind farmers as he was getting scared of farmers uniting to fight against the said laws. It was time Rao was also taught a lesson, Bhatti felt. Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC) president & MP N Uttam Kumar Reddy demanded that the BJP government immediately withdraw the contentious new farm laws to protect the interests of farmers.

Addressing a press conference at Gandhi Bhavan on Tuesday, he urged CM KCR to convene a special session of Legislative Assembly to pass new laws to override BJP govt's anti-farmer Acts. He said that the new farm laws would benefit a few corporations like Ambanis, Adanis, Amazon and Walmart while the rights and interests of poor farmers would be suppressed.

The senior Congress leader said that the 'Bharat Bandh' was successful in Telangana as Congress cadre participated in protests across the State.

TPCC working president and Malkajgiri MP Revanth Reddy took part in a protest held at Shadnagar. Former MP Mallu Ravi staged a sit-in protest in front of Nagarkurnool bus depot. Jagga Reddy along with his son staged a protest on the highway in Sangareddy to express solidarity with farmers.

Former MP Madhu Yashki Goud said that KCR had sent KT Rama Rao and Kavitha onto the streets in wake of setbacks in Dubbaka and GHMC elections. He said that both BJP and TRS are same to same as both governments are anti-farmer.
