Hyderabad: Coronavirus cases in GHMC gallop past 10,000
Hyderabad: Number of Covid-19 cases in GHMC limits went past the grim milestone of 10,000 on Saturday. The tally stood at 9,238 as on Friday, just 762 short of the five digit mark. Looking at the big numbers being reported every day from the last few days, touching the 10,000 cases was expected on Saturday. Along the same lines, a massive 888 cases were reported on Saturday taking the total 10,126 so far. Telangana's overall tally also crossed 13,000 on Friday.
The significant thing to take note of is that 5,000 cases have been reached in just a week's period (from June 19 to June 26) in GHMC limits.
The spike in positive cases have been more visible since the last ten days when the special tests drive was taken up in GHMC limits. Sample collections increased and so did the infections.
A report on testing status in various cities showed that Hyderabad and Telangana have one of the highest positivity rates among the country between June 10 to 23. In this backdrop, Centre has dashed off a central team led by Luv Agarwal, Joint Secretary, Union Health Ministry to three states-Gujarat, Maharashtra and Telangana between June 26 to 29. The team will be interacting with the state officials and co-ordinate with them to strengthen ongoing efforts in management of Covid-19. This team has public health experts, epidemiologists, clinicians.
