Hyderabad: Demolition of plaque triggers tension in Patancheru
Patancheru: Tension prevailed in the Kardanoor area on Wednesday following the demolition of a plaque for welcome arch when Padmamma Eshwarayya was the sarpanch several years back. Since the arch has not been built and it has been found to be hampering development works, the plaque has been pulled down, contended Sarpanch Bhagyamma and Upa-sarpanch Kumar. Eshwarayya alleged that the demolition was politically motivated.
The panchayat staff launched the demolition process of the plaque as it was hindering underground drainage work.
Tension prevailed with Eshwarayya insisting that the plaque be erected elsewhere. However, Bhagyamma and Kumar clarified that there was no political motive and that they had suggested the plaque be moved to an adjacent spot. They questioned its need when the arch itself was yet to be built.
Eshwarayya told the media at the spot that the drainage work was not on and that it was being taken up at the spot where the plaque was located. He clarified that he had himself agreed to removal of the plaque, and alleged that Kumar was resorting to rowdy behaviour and not agreeing to its shifting.
Eshwarayya asserted that his wife was a President's award-winner and that they represented a prominent political party. He warned that they were ready for an agitation with the support of the party leaders, while insisting that the plaque be placed elsewhere. If it was not done, they would not keep quiet.
