Hyderabad: Driving home message subtly and aptly

Hyderabad: Folk art forms are being instrumental in motivating people on the coronavirus. Folk artists have been entertaining people for centuries, besides providing knowledge on various subjects in subtle ways.

In addition, they play a major role in mobilising people on social issues. Their role during Telangana Armed Struggle to successful agitation of separate statehood is well-known. Coronavirus is currently spreading across the globe. To create awareness through their art among people in rural areas is a remedial action.

Under the aegis of Rangareddy district I &PR department, the cultural teams are creating awareness on the spreading of virus, symptoms, preventive measures, personal hygiene, cleanliness of surroundings etc.

"Ranga Reddy district has a total of 14 artists. They are divided into two teams and they perform in two villages on every day," said deputy director of I&PR K Venkataramana. The cultural shows are being organised at crowded places, junctions in the panchayats.

Workshops are being held in all 560 villages of Rangareddy district with cultural displays by the artists. Every month, a total of 50 performances are being conducted on all days except Sundays. In all the 560 gram panchayats in the district, cultural groups are taking up awareness programmes under the aegis of the information and public relations department of the state to tackle coronary disease.
