Hyderabad: Drunk driving snuffs out 3 lives in city

Hyderabad: Despite regular checking by police, incidents of road rage resulting in loss of life do not seem to be getting under control. In the fifth major accident in a week, three persons died on the spot when their car hit a tree at Karmanghat around 2 am on Sunday.

One of the occupants of the car escaped with minor injuries as he was wearing the seat belt. According to Saroornagar SHO Srinivas Reddy, the victims were identified as Mallikarjun, Sai Ram and Sainath. The three deceased along with survivor Kalyan and two others went to a party at Gurramguda.

After the party, four persons boarded the car and the two others were travelling on bike from Sagar Ring Road to Champapet. Mallikarjun was driving the car and Sainath was sitting beside the driver. Sai Ram and Kalyan were sitting in the backseat.

When the car, which was being driven at a high speed and in a rash manner, reached Karmanghat, Mallikarjun is said to have lost control and hit the tree. He and Sai Ram who was sitting in the front seat and another occupant Sainath died on the spot.

Kalyan who was wearing the seat belt escaped with minor injuries. Two of their friends who were travelling on the bike noticed the mishap and informed the police immediately. The police rushed to the spot and took out the bodies from the car.

The police shifted the bodies to the Osmania General Hospital mortuary for post-mortem. Kalyan who sustained minor injuries was admitted to a nearby private hospital for treatment.

The police seized the broken liquor bottles from the mangled car. They said it was a case of drunken and rash driving. They said the car must have been at a speed of about 140-150 KMPH at the time of accident.
