Hyderabad: Elephant, white tiger adopted at Zoo Park
Bahadurpura: An Asiatic she-elephant and white tiger, inmates of Nehru Zoological Park in Bahadurpura, on Wednesday have been adopted by an eminent artist Gaja and NASR Boys School, Gachibowli, respectively.
Gaja had organised an art exhibition in Hyderabad in January and as part of the programme, he adopted the Asiatic she-elephant named 'Sita' for a period of eight Months. Gaja presented a Cheque of Rs 3,50,000 to the curator, N Kshitija towards adoption of 'Sita'.
Gaja had conducted a charity art exhibition 'Gaja' of painted elephant sculptures in January at State Art Gallery.
According to Gaja, a part of the sale proceedings of the exhibition was utilised to adopt elephant 'Sita' at Zoo. Padma Sri Laxma Goud, Chintala Jagadish, Kavita Deuskar, Ramakrishna, Annapurna, Masuram Ravikanth, Venkataramana Goud, D Sai Aditya Goud were among those present on the occasion.
Meanwhile, NASR Boys School, Gachibowli adopted a white tiger named 'Khavi' for a period of one year. Khavi is born in the zoo and is aged about 3 years and 10 months. Mir Hafeezuddin, principal, Mir Jamaluddin Ahmed, director Finance, Mir Mohiuddin Mohammed, director Academics, Miss Farha, faculty, NASR Boys School, Gachibowli presented a cheque of Rs 1,00,000 to Kshitija towards adoption charges of 'Khavi'.
Kshitija thanked Gaja and the students of NASR Boys school for showing keen interest in adopting the animals. Thereby strengthening Wildlife Conservation Programme in the Zoo Park, she also expressed that their commitment in Conservation of Wild Animals was an inspiration to many and hope that more citizens would come forward for the adoption of animals in zoo.
