Patancheru: Chitkul Sarpanch Neelam Madhu Mudiraj on Thursday cautioned people to not merely plant saplings, as part of the Haritha Haram programme, but also ensure their survival.

He was speaking after taking up tree plantation in hundreds to mark Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao's birthday celebrations. During the programme, the sarpanch took care to replace dry and uprooted saplings and re-planted them.

Addressing the villagers, he asserted that such care for the saplings would continue until they grow into trees, with a promise to convert Chitkul as a green village.

Madhu stressed on protecting the environment so as to avoid problems to people. 'This message has been given by our elders, he said, adding that 'this should be passed on to the next generation'. He called for handing over every saved sapling to the next generation.

Several local leaders were present during the visit of the Sarpanch to the village.
