Hyderabad: Farmer couple attempts suicide at Pragati Bhavan
Hyderabad: A farmer couple attempted suicide on Monday here at Pragati Bhavan in Hyderabad. The couple -- Bikshapati and Bucchamma alleged that they have met injustice in a land issue.
The couple doused themselves with kerosene and tried to set themselves on fire. However, the police at the Pragati Bhavan reacted swiftly and apprehended the couple. The couple said that inspector Santosh trying to allot the 1.30 guntas in Kottur of Shamirpet mandal for the influential. They also said that the inspector's harassment led them to attempt suicide.
Despite the police trying to convince them, the couple refused to relent and tried to immolate themselves. However, the police pacified them and assured to resolve the issue.
In a similar incident, a couple attempted suicide by climbing a tower at Belur in Hassan district of Karnataka. The couple identified as Mohan Raj and Chandana climbed a tower with their mobile phones and land documents. They also threatened to immolate themselves if cops tried to climb up the tower. However, after the intervention of tahsildar, the couple climbed down after three hours.
