GHMC begins razing 377 dilapidated buildings

Hyderabad: Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) has launched a special drive for demolition of dilapidated structures under its limits on Saturday. A total of 30 structures have been demolished and a building has been vacated on the same day.

The vacated building is in Somajiguda under Malkajgiri circle. The 30 demolished structures include one each in Kapra, Uppal, Malakpet, Mehadipatnam, Karwan, Jubliee Hills, Yousufguda, Kukatpally and Gajularamaram, Goshamahal (2), Musheerabad (3), Malkajgiri (7), Serilingampally (4), Qutbullapur (2), Secundrabad (2) and Begumpet (2) circles.

The drive is a part of monsoon season action plan. GHMC Commissioner Lokesh Kumar directed officials concerned to conduct quick survey and identify the dilapidated structures in respective areas and accordingly take steps for assessment of the structure and to initiate action as per GHMC Act. A total of 453 dilapidated structures are either demolished, got repaired, vacated or sealed during the year 2019.

This year carrying forward the 316 structures from previous year, 377 new structures have been identified as dilapidated and action is being initiated for verifying the structural stability of the newly identified structures. In case of most dangerous structures, advance precautionary measures are being taken such as vacating of inmates, sealing of building, barricading around the structure and displaying notices cautioning public not to move around the structure.
