HMWSSB fixes issue of polluted water

Hyderabad: The issue of receiving contaminated water in Rein Bazar division under Yakutpura constituency has been solved by the HMWSSB and new pipeline has been laid.

The Hans India had taken up an issue of residents getting contaminated water on and off for the last one year in Chanda Nagar and its surrounding areas in Rein Bazar division. It pointed out that officials couldn't rectify the problem as the pipelines are 30-year-old. Following a report in these columns – "Polluted water forced down our throats, cry residents" on June 2 – Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board (HMWSSB) officials acted with alacrity and laid separate pipeline and also completed the works quickly.

"For the last one year the residents of Chanda Nagar and its surrounding areas had been receiving the polluted water and the officials couldn't rectify problem.

After the report was published, I tweeted it, tagging higher officials and also filed a new complaint attaching the report," said Abdul Rahman, a social activist. He said that after a couple of days the officials along with contractor inspected the site and works were started. After a week they rectified the problem and laid a separate pipeline.

"We have small children in our homes and the water which was supplied was not good for health. It was affecting the residents in area and were purchasing water from outside, but now the water is supplied is clean. Our major issue has been addressed and solved," said a grateful Abdul Kareem, a resident.

According to HMWSSB officials, the problem of contaminated water in these areas has been rectified. The problem was that the water line was mixed with sewerage water. Some water pipelines had been replaced by a new one and the issued could thus be fixed, they added.
