Update: 2020-03-02 00:13 IST

From 5,739 applicants in 2016- 2017 academic year, the number has increased to 15,168 applicants for the academic year 2020-2021.

Tarnaka: The Vice Chancellor of English and Foreign Languages University (EFLU), Professor E Suresh Kumar, said that there has been a sizeable leap of around 265% in the number of applicants to the university since 2016-17, for admissions to various undergraduate, postgraduate, teacher education courses and doctoral programmes.

The number of test cities has also gone up from 8 in 2016-2017 to 23 in 2020, while the number of test centres has gone up from 15 in 2016-2017 to 30 in 2020.

The VC further explained that this has been made possible through an effort of centralising the test paper-setting. This measure ensured uniformity across the entrance test papers to be used at various levels.

The online entrance examinations were conducted on February 29 and March 1 for admission to 34 courses/programmes in postgraduation, doctoral programmes and teacher training courses. The total number of applications received by the university was 15,168.

The EFL University is perhaps the first Central University in the country to conduct online tests for admission into various PG and PhD courses by the first week of March for the academic year 2020-2021.

Of the 34 courses and programmes for which online entrance examinations were conducted, 14 are in postgraduation, out of which 8 are in English stream 5 in Arabic, French, German, Russian, and Spanish and one in Hindi.

The examination for admission to undergraduate courses is scheduled to be held on April 12. The total number of applicants is 3,345.
