Hyderabad: India's space programme bound for far greater heights
Hyderabad: The Institution of Engineers (India), Telangana State Centre, on Sunday organized Dr J Purushottam 15th Endowment Lecture on 'Space and Planetary Exploration by ISRO Chandrayaan and Beyond,' by Er J A Kamalakar, Director, ISRO (Retd) and Prof Satish Dhawan, URSC ISRO, Bengaluru.
During his presentation, the chief guest said the objective of space exploration is quest for knowledge and understanding about ourselves and our place in the universe. He also said space research offers a lot of advantages such as cost effectiveness, quick assessment etc., besides telecommunications and regular broadcasting services. Space technology has been used by all departments such as remote sensing etc. He broadly explained about solar system, Chandrayaan -1 and Chandrayaan-2 etc. The presentation also dwelt on the performance of ISRO satellite launches so far in the area of planetary exploration i.e. Chandrayaan-1, Mars Orbit Mission, Chandrayaan-2 and a few results and the major gains from these missions.
Dr G Rameshwar Rao, Chairman, IEI-TSC, welcomed and presided over the function and Prof G Radhakrishna, Jt. Hon. Secretary, IEI-TSC, proposed a vote of thanks. Arvinda Rao, DGP (Retd), Dr ISN Raju, past chairman, IEI, and Prof Ramana Naik Banothu, Jt. Hon. Secretary, IEI-TSC, spoke about Dr J Purushottam. Dr P L Panda, Member, IEI, TSCC, K Subbi Reddy, IEI-SCC, family members of Dr J Purushottam, corporate members and other members also participated. (NSS)
