Hyderabad: Industries burn plastic at night
Hyderabad: The residents of Owaisi Hills in Shastripuram area held a protest on Sunday demanding the closer of all the units. Residents allege that the industries lock the gates but the units manage to function. What is more, the units burn plastic at night letting out smoke that is leading to breathlessness.
Zeenat Begum, a resident of Owaisi Hills, Shastripuram, said, "We lodged several complaints against these units. Fearing that officials might visit during day-time, some of the units are working during night hours. We can't sleep due to breathlessness."
"They keep the main entrance gates shut while continue their activities by entering from rear side of the unit. Foul smell fills the whole area. Elders and children can't breathe properly due to air filled with foul smell. They robbed our rights to live in fresh air by running such polluting industries in residential areas in and around Shastripuram Colony," bemoaned Rehana Begum another protester.
"The GHMC officials have acted against some units. Closing the small units and leaving the big ones is not at all justified," said Syed Shoukat Ali, a resident of Shastripuram Colony.
The GHMC sealed over 100 illegal units in Shastripuram Colony on June 3 after serving them notices. However, some of the units inside Shastripuram and standing close to the colony are still operating by getting stay orders.
