Hyderabad: Kondapur flyover stuck inland hurdles quagmire
Kondapur: Forest department clearance and land acquisition issues are the major reasons for the delay in the completion of the multi-level flyover construction in Kondapur. The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) has been grappling with these issues for the last two years and as a result, the Rs 263.09 crore project is in the dock. Till date only 25 percent of flyover construction works are complete.
"The flyover construction was supposed to begin in April 2018, but it started in November 2018 because of delay in approval from the traffic department. Gradually we might speed up the works once we get clearance from the departments concerned. We are awaiting a response from the forest department for the use of land to construct piers inside the botanical garden for the past two years. Land acquisition of 40 properties are still pending, if the land acquisition issues are resolved in the next six months, we shall complete the project by next year," said Bharadwaj, Deputy Engineer, Kondapur, GHMC.
The three-km flyover has three connecting lanes and an underpass of 470 m length and 11m width.
The four-lane one-way flyover construction from Gachibowli side will be crossing Botanical Garden junction at first level, beyond it will split into three-lane flyover towards Hitech City by crossing the Kothaguda junction and then it will be a three-lane straight flyover crossing Kothaguda and Kondapur junctions. A three-lane ramp from Botanical Garden approach will join the flyover, Hitech city and Allwyn crossroads bound traffic will have to take a U-turn for Gachibowli end from Botanical Garden.
A two-lane one-way underpass will be constructed at Allwyn crossroads towards Gachibowli crossing Kothaguda junction. Road widening works are in progress. 34 pillar foundations out of 79 have been laid, while the balance 45 foundations are held up.
The 45 foundations held up are:
Botanical Garden forest land (A1-P10) 11
Botanical Garden signal (UP6-UP8) 3
Botanical Garden signal
to Kothaguda (P11-P28) 18
Kothaguda to Shilpa Park (P31,P42) 2
