Hyderabad: In swift action on the complaint lodged by the Telangana government, the Krishna River Management Board (KRMB) on Friday shot off a letter to the Andhra Pradesh government seeking an explanation to the objections raised by the former on the construction of a new lift project and the enhancement of the capacity of the Pothirrddypadu Head Regulator.

Board member Harikesh Meena forwarded a letter to the AP Special Chief Secretary to the Water Resources Department and asked the latter to submit the DPR of the proposed scheme to draw 3 TMC water from the Sresailam Reservoir. The KRMB questioned the AP government for its neglected attitude towards furnishing the details of the Pothireddypadu regulator.

The TS government was objecting to the construction of the regulator for drawing excess water from river Krishna. The Telangana government was also opposed to the increasing water drawing capacity from 40,000 cusecs to 80,000 cusecs.

The board pointed out that as per para 7 of the 8th schedule of the AP Reorganization act, no new projects based on the water resources arrived at on Godavari or Krishna rivers can be taken up by either Telangana or Andhra Pradesh without obtaining sanction from the apex council on the river water resources.
