Radhakrishna Nagar Welfare Association Ravikiran and Sanjay Kumar met Malkajgiri GHMC Deputy Commissioner T Dasharath

Malkajgiri: Representatives of Radhakrishna Nagar Welfare Association Ravikiran and Sanjay Kumar met Malkajgiri GHMC Deputy Commissioner T Dasharath at his office on Wednesday and requested him to stop weekly market held at RuB road, Anandbagh on every Sunday in view of Coronavirus threat.

Speaking on the occasion, Ravikiran said that thousands of people gather at RuB road every Sunday to buy vegetables and fruits at the weekly market and expressed fears that large gathering may pose health threat to locals. In view of the state government's ban on large gatherings to prevent spread of the virus, the weekly market can be stopped temporarily, he said. Although the decision to stop weekly market may affect business of vegetable vendors, the decision to stop should be taken considering the health threat due to large gatherings, he said. The vendors can also sell vegetables using push carts and other means, he added.

He said that they have given a memorandum to Deputy Commissioner urging him to take stringent measures in this regard. The issue would also be brought to the notice of SHO of Malkajgiri police station, CP of Rachakonda Commissionerate, GHMC zonal commissioner, GHMC commissioner, local corporator and local MLA, he said.
