Heat wave warning for six districts in Telangana

Hyderabad: Temperatures soared across Telangana on Sunday. Nearly 10 persons died because of sunstroke during the last 24 hours. Severe heat-wave conditions were felt right from 7 am forcing people to stay indoors.

According to weather office, the temperature in Hyderabad and Vijayawada hovered around 42 degrees Celsius but the real feel was of 44 degrees C. Sultriness is a new phenomena that is being witnessed this summer in Hyderabad.

The Indian Meteorological Department officials said that many parts of the state recorded the highest temperature on Sunday afternoon. Nearly 20 districts have come under the highest temperature category.

The highest temperature in the State was recorded at Endapally in Jagtial district at 47.2 degrees C. Around Kakatiya Power Plant, the temperature has been reported to be 50 degrees C.

The heat-wave conditions are likely to prevail till May 25, as per the weather department. "Heat-wave conditions likely to prevail over isolated pockets in the districts of Adilabad, Komaram Bheem, Nirmal, Nizamabad, Jagtial, Mancherial, Rajanna Sircilla, Peddapalli, Karimnagar, Jayashankar Bhupalapalli, Mulugu, Mahbubabad, Bhadradri Kothagudem, Warangal Urban and Rural, Khammam, Nalgonda and other districts of Telangana," according to weather bulletin.

It is reported that two persons each in Khammam, Nalgonda and Rangareddy dies of sunstroke. One each in Mahbubnagar, Karimnagar, Medak and Nizamabad. Unofficially, the number of heatwave related deaths will be more than 50.

Dry weather would prevail, especially in districts of Adilabad, Asifabad, Nirmal, Mancherial, Nizamabad, Jagtial, Sircilla, Karimnagar, Bhupalpally, Mulugu, Mahabubabad, Warangal, Khammam, Kothagudem, Warangal, Nalgonda, Mahbubnagar and Suryapet.

The Met office, however, has some good news for denizens. It predicts rain or thundershowers towards evening or night from Tuesday. Thunderstorms may be accompanied by gusty winds in parts of the Southern Telangana districts.
