Hyderabad: Meet on handlooms at Osmania University begins today

Osmania University: The Department of Textile Technology, University College of Technology is organising a two-day International Conference on Handlooms, Fashion, Non-woven and Technical Textiles (ICHFNTT) 2020 in association with Department of Handloom and Textiles, Government of Telangana on 27 and 28 February at University College of Technology, Osmania University.

As many as 350 students from various colleges, universities across India on Handlooms. The abstract of all such papers will be included in the souvenir to be released on Thursday on the inauguration day.

The conference aims at establishing a concrete relationship in research and development between textile and apparel institutes and industry to pave the way for identifying new innovations, new horizons, new process, new products and new machines.

The conference will also discuss various applications of technical textiles and non-woven material.

"Non-wovens have specially grabbed their niche in areas like furnishing of bags for consumables or eatables in all leading hotels, supermarkets, etc in place of plastic which has been banned. These are specially made spun bonded non-wovens and in all medical fields spun bonded non-wovens are used," said Professor J Hayavadana, the convenor of ICHFNTT. The conference will have a separate discussion on challenges and prospects of handloom industry in Telangana and will be attended by leading master weavers, entrepreneurs, NGO's, academicians, etc.

P Venkatesham, Joint Director, Department of Handlooms and Textiles, Telangana, will be the chief guest at the conference. Dr Murugesh Babu, Soochow University, Jiangsu, China, and Professor Ch Sailu, Member of Telangana State Public Service Commission (TSPSC), will be guests of honours.
