Hyderabad: Mobile phone repair businesses hit hard

Update: 2020-03-16 01:29 IST

According to retailers, the manufacturers in China have asked them to check with them in the first week of April. China is expected to be flooded with orders from all over the globe. Retailers have become restive

Hyderabad: The outbreak of the coronavirus has also hit mobile repair shops. Workers at these repair shops in Paradise Circle, Punjagutta and Abids are sitting idle.

With the dip in imports of spare parts from China, people who are involved in the trade are distressed. Saadat Ali, owner of Techno Solutions in Begumpet, said, "There has been a decrease in the business. There was a time where we earned around Rs 5,000 in a day and now we are not even able to earn 500. Apart from the repairs, there is no stock of Realme and Redmi phones as they are manufactured in China. We have no idea when the order will arrive."

According to retailers, the manufacturers in China have asked them to check with them in the first week of April. Sai Prasad, owner of Jonnas Multi brand Mobile service in Kalasiguda, said, "They have asked us to check with them in April first or the second week, and that too just to see what the situation is like then. There is no shipment of spare parts or processed goods coming from China and no electronic equipment assembly is happening in India."

"The delay till April itself will have an impact on the Indian and global markets for the next one and half years. As the Chinese manufacturers have to clear their inventory, they will be flooded with orders not just from India but from all over the world," he adds further.

Mirza Baig, owner of Deccan Mobiles in SD Road, Secunderabad, said, "No one expected that the coronavirus would have such a huge impact. We are running a shortage of displays and batteries, as many people have issues with the display and battery. The last batch of stock we received was in the second week of February." He adds, "Generally we received the order in a week but due to the fall in the number of customers, we have not placed any new order. We placed orders in advance for accessories and games, but we are worried about spare parts for repair work."
