Musi River front works on fast-track

Hyderabad: Principal Secretary (Municipal Administration & Urban Development) Aravind Kumar on Monday visited several areas on the banks of Musi river, along with the officials, and took stock of the situation as part of efforts to accelerate the Musi River Beautification Project (MRBP).

The official inspected the area from Bapu Ghat to Attapur bridge and enquired about the works being taken up under the project. He also visited the area where Hitachi machines were being used to clear the debris from the river bank near Sangam at Bapu Ghat.

Officials were directed to speed up works for cleaning up storm water nalas. They were also asked to remove trash that piled up along the river banks and declog various inlets to ensure free flow of the storm water into the river. Later, pointing at the hyacinth in the river, the Principal Secretary ordered its removal at several locations such as Jiyaguda, Kishanbagh, Nagol, Musa Ram Bagh, High Court and Old Malakpet MG Bus Stand.

The primary reason behind the Principal Secretary's visit was to accelerate the works being taken up to ensure free flow of storm water trough drain channels into the river so to avoid inundations in colonies during the rainy season. Chief Engineer Mohan Naik, Deputy Collector Rangareddy District Mamata, Senior Entomologist South Zone NSrinivas and other officials were presentat the occasion.
