Thyagaraja Aradhanotsavalu in LB Nagar

LB Nagar: Continuing the rich tradition of celebrating 'Saint Tyagaraja Aradhanotsavalu,' Vagdevi Music Institute here organised a musical marathon for ten hours here at Ravindrabharati on Tuesday. Musicians, Carnatic classical experts and music lovers took part in a large number at the 173rd Thyagaraja Aradhanotsavalu.

The couple – T Umashankar and Subbulakshmi – has been teaching and promoting pure Carnatic Classical music for over 25 years. The Saint Thyagaraja Aradhanotsavalu commenced on a splendid note with the rendition of 'Pancharatna Kirtans,' penned and sung by Saint Thyagaraja, by Nandikunta Venkateswarlu and others. Later, several kirtanas of the Saint Tyagaraja were mellifluously presented by the musicians and students. TTD violinist Sashibhusan, noted mridanga, ghata and flute artistes Dattatreya, Sudhakar and Udayavani, music college lecturers Rajagopalachari, Jayakumarachari, Nageswara Rao and Vijayakumar ably rendered support.

Eminent Kuchipudi dancer Surendranath and his wife had performed a jugalbandi of Kuchipudi and Mohiniattam in an exquisite way. Bharatanatyam by Gita lata and Narsinga Rao evoked wide appreciation.

"We would like to continue this tradition of Aradhana with our own money in the years to come as well. It's our life and we would like to see that Carnatic classical echoes in the twin cities with its grandeur in the generations to come," said Subbalaxmi, a former faculty at Government Music College.
