Hyderabad: Muslim leaders plead for prayers at Eidgah

Hyderabad: With less than a week for the biggest festival of Muslims, Eid-ul-Fitr, marking the conclusion of holy month of Ramzan, religious leaders have started appealing to the Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao to allow devout to pray at Eidgahs across Telangana while maintaining 'social distance' norm after consulting medical experts.

Given the fact that devout across the world are attending mosques, while maintaining 'social distancing' norms during this Ramzan, Md Mushtaq Malik, the president of Tahreek Muslim Shabban and Convenor JAC (TS and AP) in a an open letter addressed to the Chief Minister, stated that the Muslim community has adhered to all the norms of COVID-19 and remained committed. "I request that people are allowed to offer prayer with proper guidelines, wearing masks and maintaining distance.

I request you to kindly look into the matter and after consulting the medical experts take a suitable decision, which will enable the Muslims to offer prayers at their respective locality," he added. The State president of Jamaat-e-Islami Hind, Hamid Mohammed Khan, also urged the CM to consider allowing at least some devout by maintaining 'social distancing'. He called upon the community members to follow government guidelines strictly and avoid indulging in shopping like normal days, prior to Eid.
