Netizens vent ire on selective corona tests

Hyderabad: The netizens are up in arms over the 'neglect' by the government to take up Covid-19 tests on the people who have symptoms and giving importance to the public representatives even though they have no symptoms.

The family members of the positive patients have been alleging that the authorities were not taking tests and were suggesting home quarantine.

The citizens have also alleged that only patients with severe symptoms were treated in hospitals and the rest of them were sent back. The netizens have questioned why the authorities have taken up tests of Hyderabad mayor B Rammohan and neglecting the other primary contacts of the patients.

It may be recalled that the Hyderabad Mayor Rammohan had undergone tests twice in a week's time. Once he took tests voluntarily and later undergone test for the second time after his driver got positive for Covid. Both the times the test results were negative for Rammohan.

A techie from a software company (Prolifics) K Siddharth said that when everyday hundreds of cases are getting reported, the authorities should increase tests to the primary contacts. "If these contacts are left alone, the virus would spread very fast and this would lead to community spread, which would be dangerous sign. There cannot be separate approaches for people in general and public representatives," said Siddharth.

The netizens have urged the government instill confidence among the people regarding medical facilities available in the state. A netizen Polamoni Ramakrishna Yadav said that the Janagaon MLA Muthireddy Yadagirireddy, who was tested positive for coronavirus and taking treatment in Yeshoda Hospital should be shifted to Gandhi Hospital which has all facilities. This would create confidence among the people in the government hospitals, said Rama Krishna Yadav.

The citizens were upset with many complaints by the patients who shared their experiences through the social media platforms.

Several individuals have told their experiences in the hospital including a journalist and police personnel about the poor response from the hospital staff.

A netizen Vimala Kumari said that the government should provide the same treatment which they gave to journalist Manoj. A Facebook user Sandeep Prasad said that by providing medical facilities to the MLA in a private corporate hospital, the government has agreed that the Gandhi Hospital lacks capacity to take up Covid treatment.
