Hyderabad: No more parched throats in villages along ORR
♦ A project with an estimated budget of Rs 628 crore began in December 2017.
♦ 1,610-km pipelines have been laid to supply water for 10 lakh houses within ORR limits
♦ The project would benefit around 12 mandals with construction of 164 reservoirs in 190 villages
Hyderabad: With the completion of the pipeline work pertaining to Mission Bhagiratha in the last nine villages out of the 22 in Ghatkesar mandal, the basic need of all the 190 villages within ORR limits would be fulfilled, according to the officials of Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board (HMWSSB).
The project with an estimated budget of Rs 628 crore began in December 2017, as part of which 164 reservoirs were set up and 1,610-km pipelines were laid to supply water for 10 lakh houses within ORR limits. Water Board (Operations) Director P Sudhir said, "The major ORR project aims at supplying around 30 MGD (million gallons per day) to 190 villages within the ORR limits.
At present, we are supplying 21 MGD water and once the minor works are completed, an additional 5-6 MGD will be supplied to villages. We are also expecting 1.5 lakh new connections in the villages in next three months." "Now, we need not depend on borewells and water tankers. The ORR water project helped us in fulfilling the basic need of water," said Rama, a resident in Rajendra Nagar.
