Hyderabad: Numaish postponed till Jan 31

In the view of the prevailing coronavirus situation in the state, Hyderabad's Numaish has been postponed till January 31, said Eatala Rajender, president of the Exhibition Society. He added that a decision will be taken later on when and where the exhibition could be held.

"There is a need to follow the guidelines of Ministry of Home Affairs on the conduct of Numaish since a large number of people are expected to attend unlike the marriages and functions which were permitted," he said.

Every year, Numaish commences on January 1 and concludes on February 15. Besides giving a source of income for small businesspersons and women entrepreneurs, Numaish also generates revenue for the government through GST. Businesspersons from various states would establish their stalls in the exhibition which attracts hundreds of visitors in a day.

On average, 45,000 visitors visited the exhibition during the event last year.

The decision of deferring the Numaish is also due to the new strain of coronavirus. Referring to the new strain of coronavirus, health minister Eatala Rajender said that there is a need to exercise caution and follow the COVID-19 guidelines as the current winter season is conducive for the spread of diseases.
