Hyderabad: Officials told to ensure no water shortage

Hyderabad: State Education Minister Sabitha Indra Reddy said that steps were being taken to prevent water shortage in the Rangareddy district this summer. She held a review meeting with the Municipal Chairmen, Mayors, Commissioners, Water Board and Revenue Officers on the measures to be taken to address the water shortage in the urban areas of the district. MLAs Jaipal Yadav, Kale Yadaiah, District Collector Amoy Kumar and Additional Collector Pratik Jain were present at the meeting. On this occasion, Minister Sabitha said that review meetings should be held in municipalities once in every 15 days to prevent water problems in the towns and cities of the district. All relevant officials, including Mayors, Chairmen, and Corporators, were ordered to attend the meetings.

Municipal Mayors and Chairmen, along with their Commissioners should take stock of the conditions of each colony to assess the situation from time to time. If needed, take private bores for uninterrupted water supply. The Minister suggested that the general fund can be used in case of emergencies and spend on additional pipelines and other emergency works. It's a challenge for the newly elected public representatives to ensure hassle-free water supply, she said. The Minister also instructed that all public schools, hospitals, Anganwadi centers and hostels in the district would be provided with good water pipe connections under the Mission Bhagiratha scheme.

Sabitha Indra Reddy announced that this year a target of 15,000 water harvesting pits would be set up to increase the groundwater levels in the district. The Commissioners have been instructed to take steps to ensure that every new building and house has water harvesting pit on their premises.
