Hyderabad: Osmania University professor Kasim granted bail
Hyderabad: C Kasim, professor at Osmania University who was arrested in January 2020 was granted conditional bail by a Rangareddy district court on Tuesday. The court Kasim to pay Rs 2 lakh as a deposit and submit two sureties. He is expected to be released from jail today.
Kasim was arrested on the allegations of sedition and links with the outlawed Maoist party. A case was registered against him at LB Nagar under Rachakonda commissionerate limits in November 2019 besides the cases filed against him at Siddipet and Warangal under the same charges. The professor has already granted bail in the other two cases. He is accused of holding close links with Maoists.
Kasim who was an associate professor in the department of Telugu was recently elected as secretary of Revolutionary Writers Association or Virasam. He is also the editor of a Telugu newspaper 'Nadusthunna Telangana' (contemporary Telangana).
