Hyderabad: Plasma therapy proves effective against coronavirus patients at Gandhi Hospital
Plasma therapy on five coronavirus patients has shown positive results at Gandhi Hospital. All the five patients have been recovered and one of them discharged from the hospital. The Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) has accorded permission to the Gandhi Hospital doctors to perform plasma therapy on the coronavirus patients who are critical condition.
According to the health bulletin, Dr G Srinivas Rao said that the five patients showed improvement after the completion of CP therapy. He said that five patients have been given plasma transfusion based on ICMR protocols. The therapy was given when the patient reported oxygen saturation levels dropped below 84 per cent.
Srinivas Rao said that two sessions of CP transfusion were given to each of five patients. Out of the five, one patient was discharged from the hospital, three of them have been recovered and another is under intermittent dependency on CP therapy.
The plasma is said to have collected from five recovered patients, who volunteered for the donation.
