Hyderabad: Plasma therapy trials kick off at Gandhi Hospital
Hyderabad: Gandhi Hospital has commenced plasma therapy clinical trials by collecting plasma from two recovered patients on Monday. One of them, E Akhil, said that he came forward to donate for plasma therapy after Gandhi doctors approached him and even his family and friends were very supportive of it.
If this treatment benefits patients in moderate and critical condition, then everyone who recovered should come forward for this good cause, he appealed. Akhil is pursuing higher studies in Scotland and tested positive after his return to the city in the last week of March. He was admitted in Gandhi and discharged after recovery.
Plasma collection process for every individual takes two hours at least as they have to check the health condition of the donor through various tests and assessment. Gandhi Hospital superintendent said they would be continuing this process for the next few days.
As many as 15 recovered patients have come forward to donate their blood. Once this process is done, details of critical patients and donors would be sent to ICMR which would assess various parameters between the recipient and donor and take a call.
The same will be communicated to Telangana to carry out plasma therapy on particular patients after which Gandhi hospital would go ahead with the clinical trials.
