Hyderabad police arrests man who raped and extorted money from NRI woman

A man was arrested by the city police for raping, threatening and extorting money from an NRI woman.

According to the police, the accused, Sanjeeva Reddy (48), a native of Bidar in Karnataka was residing at Nizampet along with his family. He befriended the woman on Facebook in July 2018. On October 31, 2019, the woman came from the US to Hyderabad. Reddy received her at the airport and dropped at her sister's residence.

After two days, the accused invited her for lunch and introduced his wife and nephew. He then offered her a drink mixed with sleeping pills. The trio picked her up and took to their residence in Nizampet after she lost conscious where Reddy sexually assaulted her and shot a video.

Threatening to share the video on social media, the accused extorted 30 tolas of gold, 6000 USD, cheque books and ATM cards. Fed up with his harassment, the woman approached the police who registered a case and arrested Sanjeeva Reddy, his wife Kaveri and nephew Vishal Reddy.
