Hyderabad: Put an end to 'Baldia, Khaya, Peeya, Chaldiya' culture: CM KCR

Hyderabad: In a clear and firm message to the municipal officials and newly elected representatives, Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao said it was time they perform or perish. The municipal bodies cannot continue to be known "Baldia, Khaya, Peeya, Chaldiya".

The CM said this situation needs to change and people should be taken by surprise by total makeover of the behaviour and attitude of the municipal officials and public representatives.

All urban local bodies (ULBs) should be known as people-friendly organisations.

KCR emphasised on this issue while addressing the day-long State-level Municipal Conference at Pragathi Bhavan attended by Collectors, Additional Collectors and newly elected people representatives from the municipalities.

He felt sad for municipalities becoming a synonym for drainage, dirt and garbage and a second name for corruption.

"To remove the bad name, transparent policies should be adopted. There should be a non-corrupt system in place. The town's progress should be based on proper planning. It should not be haphazard. It should be in your hands to change the towns and cities as the best ones in the country," the Chief Minister remarked.

He warned the public representatives not to make any false promises to the people and make them believe that the works will be done overnight. The officials were asked to prepare proper plans to undertake any work or task with people's participation. "Have less photo-ops, concentrate and focus more on executing the works," the CM advised.

He asserted that the onus of making towns and cities in Telangana State as the ideal ones in the country was on the newly elected Mayors, Chairpersons, Counsellors, Ward members and Corporators. "Power should not get into one's head and do not aspire for the unwarranted status. Power and position are like walking on a razor's edge.

Public life is not an easy one and do not lose your balance while discharging duties." Only 140 of you out of 5 crores of people have become Mayors and Chairpersons. This is a rare and golden opportunity to you given by the God. This is like a stepping-stone and it all depends on how much do you scaleup. You should not be flop in this endeavour," said the CM.

He quoted a poem from Barthruhari's Subhshitam and said, "People are classified into 3 categories based on their capacity to face difficulties in achieving a task.

A person who is not fit enough will not at all start any work, the second type is moderate type of people, who start the work and leave it incomplete only the courageous and efficient people shall complete any work though they come across many difficulties." He said it was for the public representatives to chose who they want to be.
