Hyderabad: Revanth Reddy to launch 'Rythu Gosa' in support of red gram farmers
Hyderabad: Congress MP from Malkajgiri A Revanth Reddy on Thursday said that if the government fails to come to the rescue of the farmers of red gram he would take up 'Rythu Gosa' (campaign on the travails of farmers) agitation in the State.
Writing an open letter to Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao, the MP said that already the Congress has taken up Patnam Gosa to expose government's failure on construction of double bedroom houses. In the same lines, the Rythu Gosa would be taken up to highlight government's apathy towards the red gram farmers.
He advised the Chief Minister to focus on the issues of farmers than meeting the US President Donald Trump and his daughter Ivanka. He wanted the government to solve the issues of farmers within two days.
The Congress MP wanted to know from the government about the existence of Rythu Samithis which have been formed to address the issues of farmers.
He said that the red gram farmers have been losing about Rs 2,000 per quintal. He said though the government said that Rythu Bandhu scheme would change the lives of the farmers entirely, the issues of them are yet to be addressed.
He alleged that black market forces have entered into red gram purchases. While it is sold for Rs 140 per kilo in the market, the farmer was not given even Rs 4,000 per quintal. He mentioned that due to wrong reports the Centre purchased only 47,000 tonnes.
