Hyderabad: RTC driving schools soon in Telangana
Hyderabad: Corona has forced all sectors to go in for several changes. The Telangana State Road Transport Corporation is no exemption. The TSRTC, which had been losing heavily in terms of revenue generation due to lockdown and continued restrictions on inter-state services even after the lockdown was lifted, has now decided to venture into setting up a driving school to augment its revenue.
The TSRTC feels that it was best suited to run the driving institute. It has a brand value of its own that the TSRTC drivers are safe drivers. Hence the TSRTC now proposes to open driving schools to impart training for light motor vehicles to heavy vehicles across the state.
Officials of the RTC said that the corporation claims that they are fully equipped with required infrastructure to provide training for aspiring drivers and have experienced manpower at big depots in the district headquarters. In Hyderabad, the RTC is already running a driving school for RTC trainee drivers. This existing infrastructure can be used for training drivers for LMVs.
The TSRTC proposes to partner with the Transport department to issue driving licences like any other driving school in the state. This will help the prospective drivers to learn driving techniques systematically and also get licence through a single window system. The corporation is also mulling to lease the lands at the RTC bus stations to commercial establishments to construct malls. It hopes that by giving land on lease, it will be able to mop up Rs 50 crore per year.
