Hyderabad: The National Disaster Management Authority, New Delhi, selected Hyderabad city along with 55 others for implementing its pilot project on 'Mobile Radiation Detection System' in which police are the first responders.

As the system involves handling of special instruments and training to police personnel, City Police Commissioner Anjani Kumar on Friday started a two-day workshop on 'Mobile Radiation Detection System' to constable officers from patrol cars and QRT at City Police headquarters in Basheer Bagh.

Addressing the workshop, the Commissioner stated that the police personnel are the first and last hope to the public, whenever any untoward incident occurs in the society, be it floods, building collapse, earthquake, fire accident and so on.

Since the usage of technology in today's modern world is growing rampantly and its use and misuse shall be known equally by all, the police must be prepared and well equipped in all forms of such incidents, to mitigate its impact and ability to control any situation.

He also said the participants in the workshop should understand and share the impact of Radio Nuclear disasters on the society and the police as emergency response to provide relief measures on safety of members of public and property.
