Hyderabad: With the BS6 emission norms set to come into effect in about a month's time, manufacturers certainly do not want to pile up un-sold inventory of older BS4-compliant vehicles.

Hence, manufacturers are left with no choice but to offer heavy discounts on their BS4 vehicles. Therefore, the companies' showrooms in the city are offering discounts in the range of Rs 2,500—10,000 to clear the BS4-compliance vehicles.

The BS 4 model vehicles will not be registered from April 1 onwards and this has made the showroom owners to slash the prices of vehicles particularly the two-wheelers.

There are display boards on the showrooms attracting the citizens to go after the vehicle with big discounts. A showroom at Nampally has put up a banner stating 'save upto Rs 10,000' under the BS4-BS6 vehicle. In another show room at Masab Tank area there was a discount of Rs 2,500 to the prospective buyers.

Abdul Majid, a sales representative in a showroom said that it has been witnessed during the last few days many are coming to enquire about the prices and discounts on offer. He said that there are limited bikes of BS-4 model in their showroom and there were inquiries about discounts.

Renigunta Rajani, a private employee visited a showroom to enquire about the discount on the BS-4 model. "We are planning to buy a vehicle and we got to know about discount on offer. The showroom personnel said that they can give a discount of about Rs 2,500," said Rajani.

To prevent the alarming rise in the pollution the government had to ban registration of vehicles of BS-4 vehicles from April 1 as the Supreme Court ordered sale of only BS-6 vehicles after April 1.

According to a report, BS-6-compliant petrol vehicles are required to emit not more than 60mg/km of NOx (Nitrogen Oxides) compared to 80mg/km of BS-4 vehicles. The particulate matter (PM) limit is 4.5mg/km for petrol engines that use direct injection, states the report.
