Hyderabad: Shutdown sparks vege-troubles for city dwellers

Hyderabad: Even as the Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao assured that all essential commodities will be made available during the 24-hour self-imposed 'Janata Curfew' observed on Sunday, the city dwellers faced hardships to buy essential goods like milk products, vegetables etc.

Dairy parlours were seen closed in many colonies across Hyderabad. The milk supply agents said that the processed milk products did not reached the distribution points in time as police stopped the transportation vehicles on the outskirts of the city in the morning.

In some cases, milk production companies stopped supplying the essential commodities fearing there will be no takers for the perishable dairy products in view of the total shutdown in the Telangana State.

People said that they struggled a lot to get a packet of 500ml milk which considered as a must to begin their daily lives.

They were confident of getting milk products as usual after the Chief Minister gave the assurance of availability of all essential commodities.

People also were disappointed on the non- availability of vegetables though the government made the announcement of the opening of all rythu bazaars a day before the 'Janata Curfew'. A corporate employee working in Hi-Tec City, M Ravi said that he could not buy vegetables on Sunday as the vendors did not open their sale counters.

Due to his busy work schedule, he used to buy required vegetables for a whole week on Sunday. This time, he could not do because all the markets were closed.

In some areas, fish traders sold the sea food on Saturday night after they came to know that people will not venture out to buy them on Sunday.

Local colony associations are planning to meet the local people's representatives and apprise them of the scarcity of essential commodities if the sale points remain closed in the coming days. Even small grocery shops selling salt, sugar, onions etc were also not opened in the colonies.

Traders did not open the shops as they feared contraction of the deadly virus if they come into contact with the persons of positive cases.
