Hyderabad: South Central Railway freight users plea to defer detention charges

Hyderabad: The freight customers of South Central Railway (SCR) requested it for deferment of detention charges for some more period in view of curfews, non-availability of labour and maintaining social distancing norms in loading/unloading. They spelt out their grievances during a webinar with senior railway officials which included the SCR General Manager Gajanan Mallya.

It may be noted that freight loading took a setback due to Covid-19. In a bid to scale up the freight loading, the SCR introduced new concept of concession Round Trip Traffic. During the webinar, the customers, especially from cement and coal segments, were briefed about the incentives. Major cement customers like Ultratech, Ramco, My Home, Kesoram, Bharti and Orient cements among them participated in the meeting through video conference. Coal traffic is the major contributor of the Zone's freight loading basket.
