Hyderabad: Steps on a war-footing to take up road repairs in twin cities
Hyderabad: The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) has taken up the road repairs, and the works are going on in full swing. "The BT plant in Chudi Bazaar will work for 24 hours from Saturday in order to finish the work fast," says Md Ziauddin, chief engineer (M) at GHMC.
The civic body has faced a lot of flak in recent months as the roads in the city were damaged due to incessant rains. Officials say that work could not be started due to the extended rainy season this year.
Though 328 km of main roads in Hyderabad comes under Hyderabad Road Development Corporation Limited (HRDCL), the GHMC is taking up the project of filling the potholes.
"We are trying to finish the work by November 15, but it is possible only if there are no rains in the city. If the surface is wet, potholes will not get fixed. We have informed the problem to MA&UD Minister K Taraka Rama Rao, but seeking the safety of the commuters, we started the work. We are removing the damaged parts and refilling them with new material," said Md Ziauddin. He further said, "Potholes on flyovers are also be filled in the process."
