Hyderabad: Techie awarded 7 years jail term for wife's dowry-related death
A software engineer on Friday has been sentenced to seven years imprisonment after his wife ended her life due to dowry harassment.
Simhadri Bala Kishore had got married to Eesha Phani in April 2015. Kishore's family demanded Rs 50 lakh and household things as dowry. However, after the marriage, the couple moved to Shivaji Nagar under Chandanagar police station limits.
Meanwhile, Eesha went to her parents' home and told them that Kishore was physically and mentally harassing her demanding additional dowry of Rs 40 to 50 lakh to settle in the USA.
Eesha's family assured him to give Rs 25 lakh and asked not to harass her further. However, Kishore did not stop harassing her following which Eesha ended her life two years after marriage.
Kishore who was booked under the dowry prevention act has been convicted and awarded the punishment.
