Techie ends life due to harassment from online money lenders

Hyderabad: Unable to bear the harassment from online loan lenders, a software engineer committed suicide here at Kismathpur in Rajendranagar on Friday.

The victim, Sunil is said to have borrowed an instant loan of Rs 70,000 from online loan app. Due to financial issues, Sunil was unable to repay the loan and the loan app executives began harassing Sunil to repay the loan amount.

The executives also started to call Sunil's family members as he had given an app access to his mother and other persons on his contact list when borrowing a loan. Sunil was depressed over the pressure mounting on him and family and have resorted to the extreme step. He hanged himself from the ceiling in his house when there was no one at home.

Sunil's wife Ramya who found him hanging alerted the police. They shifted the body to autopsy and launched an investigation.

In a similar incident, a 25-year-old woman from Siddipet district in Telangana committed suicide on after harassment from loan executives. The woman borrowed loan of Rs 3 lakh from an online app and was not repaying the loan due to the cash crunch. Besides calling her, the executives also sent messages to her contact list in her phone terming her as a 'defaulter'. The woman felt humiliated and ended her life.
