Hyderabad: Three held for transporting spurious seeds
Hyderabad: The North Zone task force on Thursday along with agriculture department officials intercepted a car and seized 19 bags of spurious cotton seeds weighing 665 kgs worth Rs 10 lakh.
The accused were identified as Narvotham Reddy, Srinivas and Venumadhav. According to task force police, they received a tip-off about the deal which was being carried out by 3 men.
Upon receiving information, the cops laid trap and nabbed the persons who brought in the spurious seeds from Gujarat.
P Radhakishan Rao, DCP, Task Force noted, "The main accused Narvotham Reddy was in seeds business from many years.
But as he suffered losses, he hatched a conspiracy to sell the spurious seeds by importing them from Gujarat. He would import them for Rs 800 per kg and used to sell for Rs 1,500 per kg."
However the accused persons were handed over to Shahinayatgunj police for further investigation.
