Hyderabad: Three-year jail for three inter-State chain snatchers

Hyderabad: A local court in LB Nagar on Wednesday convicted three notorious interstate chain snatchers of robberies in LB Nagar and Meerpet police station limits and awarded 3-year imprisonment to them.

The convicts are identified as Chokha (28), a native of Bulandshahar district in UP, previously involved in 30 property cases, M Valmiki (30), from Noida, involved in 20 cases and Ch Praneeth Chowdary (25) from Kothapet, involved in 5 cases.

The three convicts on December 26, 2018 snatched gold pusthelathadu weighing 2.7 tolas from a woman at Santoshimatha Colony under Meerpet police station limits and fled away from the spot. Later they tried to snatch a gold pusthelathadu from another woman at Indraprastha Colony under LB Nagar police station limits.When the victim raised an alarm for help they absconded from the spot. In other case on the same day they snatched 3.5 tola gold from a 60-year-old woman at Teacher's Colony vegetable market.

Police after registering the cases arrested the accused and later filed charge sheet. During the trial on Wednesday the court sentenced them for 3 years' imprisonment and imposed fine of Rs 5,000 each in each case.
